Persian lilacs and common lilacs may look similar at first glance, but there are several distinct differences between the two varieties. As a gardening and landscaping expert, I have had the opportunity to work with both types of lilacs and have observed these differences firsthand.

This size difference is quite significant, as Persian lilac flower clusters are about half the size of those found on common lilacs.

However, Persian lilac flowers tend to be paler in color compared to the vibrant hues often seen in common lilacs. This subtle difference in flower color can create a softer, more delicate appearance in Persian lilacs.

One of the most delightful aspects of lilacs is their intoxicating fragrance, and both Persian and common lilacs possess this characteristic. However, the fragrance of Persian lilacs is often described as being particularly rich and sweet. The smaller size of Persian lilac flowers may concentrate the scent, resulting in a more powerful and captivating aroma.
Maintenance:
In terms of maintenance, both Persian and common lilacs are relatively easy to care for. Regular pruning is recommended for both varieties to promote healthy growth and maintain their desired shape. However, due to their smaller size, Persian lilacs may require less frequent pruning compared to common lilacs.
