Is Needlepoint Ivy the Same as English Ivy?
Needlepoint Ivy is not the same as English Ivy, although they are both members of the Hedera helix species. Needlepoint Ivy, also known as Hedera helix ‘Needlepoint’, is a specific cultivar of English Ivy that has distinct characteristics that set it apart from other varieties.

On the other hand, English Ivy usually has larger leaves with a more rounded shape and fewer lobes.
Another difference lies in the growth habit of these two varieties. Needlepoint Ivy is considered a small evergreen climber, meaning it has a more compact and restrained growth habit compared to English Ivy. It is often used as a ground cover or in containers, where its trailing vines can create a beautiful cascading effect. English Ivy, on the other hand, is known for its vigorous and aggressive growth, making it a popular choice for covering walls, fences, or other structures.
In terms of care requirements, Needlepoint Ivy and English Ivy have similar needs. They both prefer partial to full shade and well-draining soil.
