Is Blue Sage a perennial?

Blue Sage is indeed a perennial plant. I have personally grown Blue Sage in my garden for several years now, and it has proven to be a reliable and long-lasting plant. Perennials are plants that live for more than two years, and Blue Sage fits this description perfectly.

One of the great things about Blue Sage is its ability to attract pollinators. The fragrant flowers of Blue Sage are a favorite among many insects, particularly bumblebees and butterflies. I have often seen these beautiful creatures buzzing and fluttering around the flowers, drawn in by the sweet scent and vibrant color of the blooms.

In addition to its attractiveness to pollinators, Blue Sage also has a lovely appearance in the garden. The plant grows to be about two to three feet tall, with slender, gray-green leaves and clusters of tubular flowers that can range in color from pale blue to deep violet. The flowers bloom from late spring to early fall, providing a burst of color and interest in the garden for many months.

Blue Sage is also a relatively low-maintenance plant, making it a great choice for gardeners of all levels of experience. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil, but can tolerate a range of soil conditions. Once established, Blue Sage is fairly drought-tolerant and does not require frequent watering. It can also tolerate some cold temperatures, making it suitable for a variety of climates.

In terms of care, Blue Sage benefits from regular pruning to maintain its shape and encourage bushier growth. I usually trim back the plant in early spring before new growth begins. This helps to promote a more compact and tidy appearance, as well as stimulate new blooms. Deadheading spent flowers throughout the blooming season can also prolong the flowering period and keep the plant looking its best.

Blue Sage is a wonderful perennial plant to have in your garden. Its attractive appearance, fragrant flowers, and ability to attract pollinators make it a favorite among many gardeners. Whether you have a small backyard garden or a larger landscape, Blue Sage can add beauty and interest to any space.
