How big do Wentworth Viburnum get?

The Wentworth Highbush Cranberry, also known as Viburnum trilobum ‘Wentworth’, is a hardy and versatile shrub that can add beauty and functionality to your garden or landscape. In terms of size, this particular variety of Viburnum can grow to be quite large, so it’s important to consider the available space in your garden when planting it.

Typically, the Wentworth Viburnum can reach a mature height of 8 to 12 feet (2.4 to 3.7 meters), with a spread of 6 to 10 feet (1.8 to 3 meters). This shrub has a multi-stemmed, upright growth habit, meaning it will grow vertically but also spread outwards as it matures. With its spreading habit, the Wentworth Viburnum can fill in empty spaces in your landscape nicely.

When it comes to planting this shrub, it’s important to give it enough room to grow and spread out. Make sure to choose a location that provides enough space for the mature size of the plant. This will prevent overcrowding and allow the shrub to grow properly.

In terms of maintenance, the Wentworth Viburnum is relatively low-maintenance once established. It is adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions, but it prefers well-draining soil. This shrub is also tolerant of different light conditions, although it tends to perform best in full sun to partial shade.

To encourage healthy growth, it’s a good idea to prune the Wentworth Viburnum in early spring or late winter, before the new growth begins. This will help maintain its shape and control its size if necessary. Additionally, regular watering during dry periods and occasional fertilizing can help promote optimal growth and overall health.

In my own gardening experience, I have planted several Wentworth Viburnums in different landscapes. I found that giving them enough space to grow and spread out allowed them to thrive and showcase their beautiful blooms and berries. Their size and spreading habit make them excellent choices for filling in larger areas or creating natural screens and hedges.

The Wentworth Viburnum is a fantastic addition to any garden or landscape, providing not only aesthetic appeal but also edible berries that can be used for making jams and jellies. Just be sure to give it enough room to reach its mature size, and it will reward you with its beauty and functionality.
