Is kalanchoe a shade or sun?

Kalanchoe plants thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. They do best when placed in a room that receives ample natural light, but it is important to avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. I have personally experienced the negative effects of placing Kalanchoe in direct sunlight, as the leaves can turn brown and become damaged. Therefore, it is crucial to find a balance between providing enough light for the plant to grow and avoiding excessive sun exposure.

One option is to place the Kalanchoe near a window that receives indirect sunlight throughout the day. This way, the plant can benefit from the brightness of the sun without being directly exposed to its harsh rays. I have found that positioning the plant a few feet away from the window works well in providing the optimal amount of light.

Another consideration is the time of day when the sunlight is strongest. If you notice that the sun shines directly on a particular window during certain hours, it may be best to avoid placing the Kalanchoe near that window during those times. This will help prevent the leaves from getting scorched and maintain the plant’s health and appearance.

It is worth mentioning that Kalanchoe plants are succulents, which means they have the ability to store water in their leaves. This characteristic allows them to tolerate periods of drought and makes their watering needs minimal. Overwatering can lead to root rot and other issues, so it is important to let the soil dry out between waterings. I have found that watering the Kalanchoe once every 1-2 weeks is sufficient, but this can vary depending on factors such as the climate, pot size, and humidity levels.

To determine when to water, you can use the “finger test.” Simply stick your finger into the soil up to the second knuckle. If the soil feels dry at that depth, it is time to water the plant. However, if the soil still feels moist, it is best to wait a few more days before watering again. This method helps prevent overwatering and ensures that the Kalanchoe receives the right amount of moisture.

Kalanchoe plants prefer bright, indirect sunlight. Placing them in a room with lots of natural light, away from direct sunlight, is ideal. Remember to let the soil dry out between waterings to avoid overwatering. By providing the right amount of light and water, you can help your Kalanchoe thrive and enjoy its beautiful blooms.
