How do you catch horsefly?

Catching horseflies can be a challenging task, but with the right methods and tools, it can be done effectively. Here are some tips and techniques to help you catch horseflies:

1. Fly Relief Fly Traps: These traps are a great way to reduce the horsefly population around your property. They are designed to attract and trap horseflies, using a special bait that lures them in. Hang these traps in areas where horseflies are commonly seen, such as near stables, paddocks, or riding areas. The traps should be placed away from where horses or other animals can come into contact with them.

2. Pyranha Equine Spray & Wipe: This spray is specifically formulated for horses and can be used to repel horseflies. It contains insecticides that are effective against horseflies and other biting insects. Simply spray the product onto your horse’s coat, paying special attention to areas where horseflies tend to bite, such as the legs, belly, and ears. Reapply the spray as needed, especially after your horse has been sweating or if they have been out in the rain.

3. Flex 10-10: This insecticide is commonly used to control horseflies and other pests. It can be applied to the areas where horseflies are active, such as the walls of stables or barns, fences, or other surfaces. Follow the instructions on the product label for proper application and safety precautions.

4. Pivot IGR: This insect growth regulator (IGR) can be used to control horseflies by disrupting their life cycle. It works by inhibiting the development of horsefly larvae, preventing them from maturing into adult flies. Apply the IGR to areas where horsefly larvae are likely to be found, such as wet or damp areas, manure piles, or areas with standing water.

5. Maxforce Granular Fly Bait: This bait is highly attractive to horseflies and can be used to lure them into traps or bait stations. Scatter the granules in areas where horseflies are active, such as around stables, paddocks, or feeding areas. Make sure to follow the instructions on the product label for proper application and safety precautions.

When using any insecticides or repellents, it’s important to read and follow the instructions carefully. Take precautions to protect yourself, your animals, and the environment. Keep in mind that these methods may not completely eliminate horseflies, but they can help to reduce their population and make your horse’s environment more comfortable.

In my personal experience, I have found that a combination of fly traps, sprays, and baits can be effective in catching horseflies. By using Fly Relief Fly Traps to attract and trap the flies, along with Pyranha Equine Spray & Wipe to repel them from my horses, I have noticed a significant decrease in horsefly activity. Additionally, using insecticides such as Flex 10-10 and Pivot IGR in targeted areas has helped to control the horsefly population. using Maxforce Granular Fly Bait as a lure has helped to attract and capture horseflies, further reducing their numbers. It’s important to be consistent with these methods and to regularly monitor and maintain the traps, baits, and sprays for optimal effectiveness.
