Does Epiphyllum need full sun?

Epiphyllum cacti thrive in bright, filtered light. They require a good amount of sunlight to grow and flourish. However, it is important to protect them from strong midday sun, especially during the summer months, as this intense sunlight can potentially burn or scorch their delicate foliage.

To provide the ideal lighting conditions for your Epiphyllum, it is recommended to place them in an area where they can receive bright, indirect light for most of the day. This could be near a window with sheer curtains or in a spot where they are shielded from direct sunlight by taller plants or trees.

In my personal experience, I have found that placing my Epiphyllum near an east-facing window works well, as it allows them to receive ample morning sunlight while avoiding the harsh afternoon sun. This ensures they get the necessary light without risking damage to their leaves.

If you live in an area with hot summers or intense sunlight, it may be beneficial to provide additional shade for your Epiphyllum during the hottest part of the day. This can be done by moving them slightly away from the window or using a sheer curtain to filter the sunlight.

It is important to note that while Epiphyllum cacti do require sunlight to thrive, too much direct sun exposure can lead to sunburn and leaf damage. So, finding a balance between providing enough light and protecting them from excessive sunlight is crucial.

Epiphyllum cacti need bright, filtered light to grow well. They should be kept away from strong midday sun, especially during summer months, to prevent scorching. Providing them with moderate to high humidity, such as by placing the container on a tray of damp gravel, will also contribute to their overall health and growth.
