Do deer eat Prague Viburnum?

As a gardening and landscaping expert, I can confidently say that Prague Viburnum is generally considered to be deer resistant. This means that deer are less likely to eat this particular shrub compared to other plants in your garden. However, it is important to note that no plant can be completely immune to deer browsing, as their feeding habits can vary depending on factors such as food availability and hunger.

In my personal experience, I have found that Prague Viburnum is indeed less attractive to deer compared to other shrubs. I have planted several Prague Viburnum shrubs in my garden, and while I have occasionally seen some nibbling on the leaves, the damage has been minimal and the plants have remained healthy overall.

One reason why Prague Viburnum may be less appealing to deer is its evergreen nature. Deer tend to prefer plants with tender, new growth, and evergreen plants often have tougher, less appetizing foliage. Additionally, Prague Viburnum has attractive dark green foliage, which may not be as palatable to deer as other plants with softer or tastier leaves.

It is worth noting that while Prague Viburnum is generally deer resistant, it is not completely deer-proof. In areas with high deer populations or during periods of food scarcity, deer may still browse on Prague Viburnum if no other food sources are available. Some gardeners have reported deer damage to Prague Viburnum during harsh winters or when deer populations are particularly high.

If you live in a region with a high deer population or have had previous issues with deer browsing, it is advisable to take additional measures to protect your Prague Viburnum. This can include using physical barriers such as deer fencing or netting, applying deer repellents or deterrents, or planting companion plants that are known to be more attractive to deer and may divert their attention away from the Prague Viburnum.

While Prague Viburnum is generally considered to be deer resistant, it is important to remember that no plant is completely immune to deer browsing. Taking preventive measures and monitoring your garden for deer activity can help ensure the health and beauty of your Prague Viburnum shrubs.
