Do daisy come back every year?

Daisies, those lovely and cheerful flowers, have the ability to come back year after year in most zones. They are considered perennials in zones 5 to 9, meaning that they can survive and thrive for multiple growing seasons. However, itโ€™s important to note that a few varieties of daisies are hardy even in zone 4, making them suitable for colder climates as well.

In zones 5 to 9, where most daisies are perennial, gardeners can enjoy the beauty of these flowers year after year without much effort. Once established, daisies will continue to bloom and brighten up your garden with their vibrant colors. They are known for their resilience and ability to withstand different weather conditions, making them a popular choice for many gardeners.

However, in cooler zones where winter temperatures can be harsh, daisies may not survive the cold temperatures. In these areas, gardeners have a couple of options. They can treat daisies as annuals, planting new ones each year, or they can bring the daisies indoors to overwinter.

If you choose to treat daisies as annuals in colder zones, you can simply enjoy their beauty for one season and replant new ones each year. This can be a great way to experiment with different varieties and colors of daisies, adding diversity to your garden each year.

On the other hand, if you donโ€™t want to give up on your daisies after just one season, you can bring them indoors during winter. This can be done by digging up the daisies and transplanting them into containers. Place the containers in a cool, well-lit area of your home, such as a sunny window or a greenhouse. With proper care and attention, daisies can continue to grow and bloom indoors throughout the winter. Once the threat of frost has passed, you can then transplant them back into your garden for another season of beautiful blooms.

In my own gardening experience, I have had success with both treating daisies as annuals and bringing them indoors during winter. I live in zone 6, where daisies are considered perennial, but I have also grown them as annuals in previous years. I found that they are relatively easy to grow from seed or young plants, and they quickly establish themselves in the garden. Their cheerful blooms never fail to bring a smile to my face, and I always look forward to seeing them return each year.

While daisies are primarily perennial flowers in zones 5 to 9, they can also be grown as annuals or brought indoors to overwinter in cooler zones. Their ability to come back year after year makes them a popular choice for many gardeners. Whether you choose to enjoy them as perennials or treat them as annuals, daisies are sure to add beauty and charm to any garden.
