Are purple coral bells deer resistant?

Purple coral bells, also known as Heuchera Purple Palace, are not typically considered deer resistant. While they may be incredibly beautiful and attractive to gardeners, deer often find them quite tasty. This can be a disappointment for those who have fallen in love with the plant’s stunning foliage and want to enjoy it without the fear of deer damage.

I can understand your disappointment when the deer ate both of your Heuchera Purple Palace plants in your backyard. It can be frustrating to invest time, money, and effort into planting and caring for plants, only to have them devoured by wildlife.

Deer are known to have a voracious appetite and can be quite destructive in gardens. They are attracted to certain plants for their taste and nutritional value, and unfortunately, Heuchera Purple Palace is not one that they tend to avoid. The lush foliage and vibrant color of these plants can be irresistible to deer.

In my own experience, I have had similar encounters with deer and Heuchera Purple Palace. I planted several of these plants in my garden, thinking they would add a pop of color and interest. However, I soon discovered that the deer in my area had a particular fondness for them. Despite trying various deer repellents and deterrents, the deer continued to nibble on the foliage and eventually destroyed the plants.

While some gardeners may have had success in deterring deer from their Heuchera Purple Palace plants through the use of certain repellents or fencing, it is important to note that deer behavior can vary depending on the region and individual deer populations. What may work for one gardener may not work for another.

If you are determined to have Heuchera Purple Palace in your garden, there are a few strategies you can try to minimize deer damage. One option is to use fencing or netting to physically protect your plants from deer. This can be effective but may not always be practical or aesthetically pleasing in all garden settings.

Another approach is to experiment with various deer repellents. There are many commercial products available that claim to deter deer, such as sprays or granules containing predator urine or other strong scents. It may be worth trying different repellents to find one that is effective in your specific area.

Additionally, planting deer-resistant companion plants around your Heuchera Purple Palace may help to divert the attention of deer away from your prized coral bells. Some examples of deer-resistant plants include lavender, yarrow, salvia, and ornamental grasses. By creating a more diverse and less appealing landscape for deer, you may be able to reduce their interest in your Heuchera Purple Palace.

While Heuchera Purple Palace is a stunning plant, it is not typically deer resistant. Deer find the foliage of this plant quite tasty and may feast on it if given the opportunity. If you are determined to have Heuchera Purple Palace in your garden, you may need to take measures to protect it from deer, such as using fencing or repellents. Alternatively, considering deer-resistant companion plants may help to divert their attention.
