Are Italian green peppers hot?

Italian green peppers, also known as Green Cubanelle peppers, are not considered hot peppers. They have a very mild heat level, typically ranging from 100 to 1000 SHU (Scoville Heat Units) on the Scoville scale. This makes them much milder than other popular chili peppers like jalapenos or serranos.

I have personally grown and cooked with Italian green peppers in my garden, and I can tell you that their heat is barely noticeable. They have a pleasant, sweet flavor with just a hint of spice. The mild heat adds a subtle kick to dishes without overpowering them, making them perfect for those who prefer milder flavors.

Italian green peppers are often used as frying peppers or cooking peppers in Italian cuisine. They are commonly used in dishes such as stuffed peppers, sautéed peppers and onions, or as a topping for Italian sandwiches and pizzas. Their thin walls and mild heat make them ideal for cooking, as they cook quickly and retain their flavor well.

One popular way to enjoy Italian green peppers is to simply fry them. Heat some olive oil in a pan, add sliced peppers, and cook until they are tender and slightly charred. Sprinkle with salt and enjoy as a side dish or as a topping for sandwiches or pasta.

Another delicious use for Italian green peppers is to stuff them with a filling of your choice. You can use a mixture of ground meat, rice, and herbs, or get creative with vegetarian fillings like cheese, beans, or grains. Bake the stuffed peppers until they are tender and the filling is cooked through for a flavorful and satisfying meal.

Italian green peppers can also be pickled and enjoyed as a condiment. Pickled peppers add a tangy and slightly spicy flavor to sandwiches, salads, or antipasto platters. They can be preserved in vinegar, salt, and spices to enhance their flavor and extend their shelf life.

Whether fried, stuffed, pickled, or used in other culinary creations, Italian green peppers are a versatile and tasty ingredient to have in your kitchen.
